The content of these University of Otago Library pages is protected by copyright and its use must be consistent with the provisions of the New Zealand Copyright Act 1994. Pictures on this site are used with the artists’ permission, but copyright in an image resides with the artist or his/her heirs or other copyright holder.
Where copyright to a work of art exists separately from the University of Otago Library’s copyright to the image itself, the written consent of the copyright owner as well as the University Library’s will be required. Access to these collections is conditional on the understanding that you agree to the terms and conditions above.
Copying of images for personal use only
- You may view, download and print for the purposes of private study and research, criticism and review, or education.
- You may not duplicate the image in any medium for another person or institution.
- You may incorporate the URL for an image, but not the image itself, in an online document. If an image file is downloaded direct from the university server, the integrity of the file is ensured.
- You must include the copyright statement that accompanies each image in the copy you make, whether in electronic or other form.
Māori images
- These images have a special significance for Māori and we ask users to treat these images, and other portraits, with respect.
- Please view and store these images in study areas only.
- The presence of food and drink, or display in inappropriate ways, will denigrate their special significance.
